History of NadBooks/Starlybooks
I remember when we started this journey to build a platform for writers in 2022. We went through many iterations.
Many people don't know how this journey started. Only few people like Xavier, Min Eddie, Psalm, Serah are still here from the beginning.
Nadbooks, formerly Starlybooks was birthed out of necessity after the passing of Okadabooks.
I lost several books to the unannounced closure of Okadabooks.
After that happened, we sort to create a platform for writers that would be community driven.
We built the first iteration and the bugs were way too many. The developers refused to continue work on the project as they believed they should be paid more than they we agreed. They believed that fixing the bugs were not part of that agreement. And that was how Starlybooks 1.0 died.
One year later, we returned and gave the contract to a much capable firm, whose name I will not mention. These guys built the front-end only. And refused to continue. It was as if they were daring me to take them to court. 😩
We lost millions in the process. I sucked it up and continued with life. Starlybooks 1.2 died even before it started. Till this day, I still view the guy's WhatsApp status 😅 There was absolutely no backend work done.
Nadbooks (Starlybooks 2.0) begun around April last year. This time, I really felt things would change as I had learnt my lesson. No living things to chance or people. I would be holding everyone involved accountable. But it still didn't go as planned. There were way to many variables involved. Too many moving parts were not in sync. Eyes were not talking to the ears; nose were not connected to the olfactory lobe. People were leaving the project as fast as they came. This iteration took me time to give up on because I was really more invested in it mentally.
Nadbooks 2.1: Just last month, I personally decided to become a developer. Although, I did not actually think I was going to succeed. But when started vibe coding, I realised . that I have been doing this for the past 25 years. The very first day I configured a phone to browse the internet through dial up internet.
So here we are at the present, over 5 million Naira after. 😢😂
Why am I sharing this? I am sharing this majorly because of a lot of you who have stayed with us from the very beginning through failed NFT launches. Failed movie projects. I feel like I owe you guys a lot of explanations. We're like family now. So here's to more years on this never ending writers' platform.
NB: If you're ever going to get anything of great importance done, you're more likely to succeed if you do it yourself. If you can't do, why do you think anyone else should be able to succeed at a dream they never dreamt?
So never give up.
Big shout out to the OGs. Great to have you guys with us.
